Westing. Here is a photo that was published originally in Fred Westing's 1974 book entitled "Pennsy Steam And Semaphores," page 178. Partial Caption: "This was a publicity shot of the 'Broadway Limited' taken in September 1920, and shows the kind of engine Ollie Keller was driving at the time. Chaney from the inspection car at the rear of the train pulled by K-5 No. 5699. Another section of the Inspection Trip is about to pull up and pass Chaney's train. Here is an image of an official photo of (L to R) Pennsylvania Railroad engines #3847, #4745, #4837, and #3768. #3847 is a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata in April of 1923, rebuilt by Lima with rotary cam poppet valves in 1939, and retired in November of 1953. #4745 is a P-5A(M) (2-C-2) built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in March of 1935, rated at 3,750 horsepower, and retired in August of 1961. #4837 is a GG-1 (2-C-C-2) built in Juniata in July of 1935 and rated at 4,620 horsepower. And #3768 is a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata in June of 1920, streamlined in 1936, and retired in October of 1953. William E. Burket Collection.

Coal Power. Here is a duplicate 35mm B&W slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken near the Passenger Station in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1938. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #3768, #4046, and a pair of "I" Class (2-10-0) "Decapods" whose road numbers are not recorded. #3768 is a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during June of 1920 and retired in October of 1953. #4046 is a B-6SB (0-6-0) switcher built in February of 1924 and retired in August of 1950. In this context, the "Pacific" is departing the Station with a passenger train, the switcher awaits its next assignment, while the "Decapods" are powering a freight train up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. Partially visible in the background are some of the PRR's 12th Street Car Shops. It's classic Altoona railroadin'!
